stop the phonebook spam

Each year I am annoyed and have to recycle the pile of phone books that are delivered to my doorstep. With the internets and it's far reaching wikifiification of all things communication I no longer need the yellow pages. As a result I'd prefer they just not deliver them.

Well, it looks like there are people out there that agree with me! yellowpagesgoesgreen.org is kind of like a do not call registry for phone books.

Here's a bit from their About Us page

Yellowpagesgoesgreen.org is an organization working to educate consumers and promote the green movement to eliminate the unsolicited delivery of Yellow and White Pages books. This site is aimed at starting a national movement to solicit the White/Yellow Pages industry to proactively stop the delivery of books or to begin moving legislation to mandate the stoppage of this activity. This movement should be similar to the National No-Call Registry that have stopped and/or decreased the number of unwanted solicitations telephone calls to consumers.
Sign up and they will submit a stop delivery notice to the phone book providers in your area. Hopefully the phone book companies will comply, we'll have to wait and see. I'd really like to see this become a national government program similar to donotcall.gov.
