Skull Synergy

When I was in LA a few weeks ago I shot this:

It caught my eye. I kind of thought that in it's grimy charred way, the image on the billboard resembled a burned up Stormtrooper, or maybe a skull or something. It's just one of those things I like, an odd conglomeration of dirty, deteriorating beauty.

Then thinking nothing of the above image, while in Austin I got a shot of this:

Clearly, a Skull. This one I mostly just found amusing. "Heh, someone spraypainted a skull with a cell phone on a building." *snap* *snap* *picture taking noise*

Then yesterday I interbrowse over to boing boing only to find this:

Apparently, someone either hacked into or paid to have their skull art broadcast on a couple fancy digital billboards owned and operated by evil crap radio station conglomerate advert company ClearChannel in LA.

"Well boy howdy! That's the same as the Austin Skull...." I think. Then an hour or so later.... "Hay, maybe that LA one is the skull too, the guys website seems to be LAcentric." After taking a second look I am pretty sure it is.

So it seems that the source of all this skullery is some guy who goes by the name spazmat. His Skull goings on are documented at skullphone.com.

Whether he hacked, or paid for the clear channel signage is kind of unclear. Even though clear channel claims that he was a paying customer, it's difficult to believe that a street artist could pay the bill.

Anyway, I thought it was all amusing, and had to tell someone. So there you go. Don't you feel lucky, Mr/Ms internet?
